Develop curriculum through critical analysis
The Curriculum Studies (PhD) program prepares you to strengthen your own practice, challenging you to work for social justice and educational excellence. The program focuses on educational curriculum in the context of sociocultural and political environments, forcing you to think critically about opportunities and problems in education. The PhD in Curriculum Studies is for those who seek academic careers such as researchers or university faculty; leadership positions in educational policy, local or state agencies; or curriculum positions in schools or community learning environments.
The program offers additional licensure and endorsement options: superintendent, teacher leadership or principal preparation. All classes meet in the evenings at the Lincoln Park Campus. The program can be completed in just over three years.

Submit an online application, official transcripts, résumé, letters of recommendation, a personal statement and a writing sample.

Professor Kuzmic motivates his students to better understand their scholarly responsibility to the education system. He is driven by his own research in the areas of gender, teaching and education, democratic schooling, teacher professionalism, and the relationship between our understandings of democracy, and curriculum theory and practice.
“I chose DePaul’s College of Education because I wanted to study under Dr. Jason Goulah. I had been engaged with the research and practice of value-creating education, philosophy and practice espoused by three Japanese educators, Tsunesaburo Makiguchi, Josei Toda, and Daisaku Ikeda, prior to coming to DePaul, and I wanted to further my study in the area. DePaul is the only university in the U.S. that has the Institute for Daisaku Ikeda Studies in Education, and Dr. Goulah is one of the foremost scholars in the field.”
