A global philosophy, uniquely DePaul

In the Value-Creating Education for Global Citizenship degree program, you’ll learn Soka, the early 20th-century educational philosophy of Japanese educators Tsunesaburo Makiguchi, Josei Toda and Daisaku Ikeda.

This program will prepare you to bring new focus and energy to your current school and join the global community of Soka, or “value-creating” educators. It is the only program of its kind in the world and provides a truly unique educational experience.

All courses are offered exclusively online. This degree program can be completed in under two years.

Soka experts from around the world

You’ll study with award-winning author and founding director of the Value-Creating Education for Global Citizenship program, Associate Professor Jason Goulah. His books include “Daisaku Ikeda, Language and Education,” which received the 2015 AESA Critics Choice Book Award, “Makiguchi Tsunesaburo in the Context of Language, Identity and Education,” and “Makiguchi Tsunesaburo (1871–1944): Educational Philosophy in Context” (with Andrew Gebert).

“Value creation is a lived experience that allows everyone to contribute to their field of study. Although the program is mainly focused on education, you learn that education can look like many different things and it is the underlying connections with people that matter the most. You will come away with more compassion, action plans to connect with people, and motivation to make changes in your local or larger community.”
