Position Requirements
College of Education (COE) graduate assistant opportunities are one-year appointments for the entire academic year listed for the posting. This includes hours requirements during university student break periods (winter and spring) when the college is still open. Positions can be offered as full-time (600 hours/year) or part-time (300 hours/year), but are one-year appointments
only with
no exceptions. Applicants who cannot work the entire academic year are not eligible for these COE positions and are encouraged to seek other college and university job opportunities.
The graduate assistant (GA) is an important part of the College of Education.
Graduate assistantships (GA) are fully in-person, on-campus opportunities for qualified students (master’s and doctoral) to work closely with COE faculty, staff and students to support ongoing research efforts, operations of the college, to engage in ongoing conversations regarding educational issues and research with faculty, staff and other student colleagues, and assist with other duties as assigned by their hiring unit.
Because graduate assistants generally work with and for several faculty members at once, they can expect broad-based exposure to the day-to-day workings of the COE within the context of university life.
Appointments
Graduate assistant applicants are interviewed and appointed directly by each individual hiring area in the College of Education. A complete list of hiring units is outlined below under the application section. The dates for applications are also listed in the application section below. The number of appointments available for any given school year varies and is contingent upon funding. Any applicants hired and seeking continued employment in this role beyond the one academic year appointment must reapply each subsequent year they are eligible.
Full-time graduate assistant appointments require 600 hours of on-campus, in-office work fall through spring quarters of the academic year following the application window (including break periods). Part-time graduate assistant appointments require 300 hours of on-campus, in-office work fall through spring quarters of the academic year following the application window (including break periods). All full-time and part-time hours are completed on-site and primarily during COE regular operating hours Monday-Friday between the hours of 9 a.m.-5 p.m. However, some COE units require and schedule GA assistance outside of these hours. Graduate assistant weekly work schedules are determined by the needs of the hiring area with the hiring supervisor providing the final schedule.
Potential applicants should direct any questions about appointments and weekly schedule requirements to the appropriate contact listed for the position. Contacts can be found below under “Application for Graduate Assistantship."
