Orientation
All student teachers must attend the Student Teaching Orientation Meeting scheduled for their student teaching quarter. The meeting will be held at the Lincoln Park Campus. The orientation will provide information on issues pertinent to the student teaching experience. Student teachers must attend whether or not their cooperating schools are in session.
Capstone & Seminar
All student teachers will attend a capstone or seminar:
-
UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT TEACHERS will attend a capstone course that meets regularly during their student teaching quarter. Attendance at the capstone course is required and students may need to leave their student teaching placement site early on the meeting days so they can arrive promptly at the course. This must be discussed and cleared with the cooperating teacher. The capstone instructor will determine the curriculum for this course.

GRADUATE STUDENT TEACHERS will attend a seminar course that meets regularly during student teaching. Attendance at the seminar course is required and students may need to leave their student teaching placement site early on the meeting days so they can promptly arrive at the course. This must be discussed and cleared with the cooperating teacher. The seminar instructor will determine the curriculum of the seminar.
Visitation by the University Supervisor
Although the cooperating teacher is the student's primary mentor, the student will be assigned a DePaul University faculty member as his/her university supervisor. The university supervisor will visit a minimum of four times. S/he will observe the student teacher in the classroom, review lesson plans and student teaching material, communicate with the cooperating teacher, complete appropriate student teaching forms and evaluations, be available to provide ongoing support for the student teacher, and submit grades for each student teacher s/he supervised.
Final Grades
At the end of the placement, student teachers will receive two grades. The first grade (for student teaching) will be assigned by the university supervisor, in collaboration with the cooperating teacher. The second grade (for the capstone or seminar) will be assigned by the capstone or seminar instructor. Both grades are entered directly into the university system.
