Scholarship FAQ

No. The COE has established scholarship application periods throughout the academic year. The dates for these annual application periods are located on our Scholarship Opportunities page.

Please note: Students may access the Scholarship Connect application website at any time. Many university and external scholarships are available for application at any time.

Applicants must be enrolled in the College of Education to apply for COE scholarships. Each year, applicants must complete the General Application on Scholarship Connect before proceeding to COE applications. Most COE scholarship applications include an essay requirement.

College of Education scholarships are extremely competitive, and students are encouraged to submit essays that detail their qualifications.

International Students are eligible for COE scholarships that do not require a FAFSA. Scholarships that do not list "demonstrate financial need" as a requirement are those for which International Students may be eligible. On Scholarship Connect, International Students may apply for external scholarships that have been reviewed by the Office of Financial Fitness. In addition, the International Student & Scholar Services office may have funding opportunities.

Yes. In fact, the COE scholarship staff encourages students to apply for as many scholarships as they are eligible.

Yes. Past award winners are welcome to apply for the same scholarship each year, and can be awarded multiple years.

While there is no word requirement for COE scholarship essays, the scholarship staff encourages applicants to use the essay opportunity to demonstrate to the scholarship committee their qualifications, achievements, and goals. Please thoroughly proofread essays for spelling and grammatical errors before submitting. For assistance with crafting scholarship essays, please contact The University Center for Writing-based Learning (UCWbL).

The complete criteria for each COE scholarship are listed on the Scholarship Opportunities page.

If you apply for multiple COE scholarships, you may submit the same essay. However, please note that some scholarships require different types of essays or ask different questions. Craft your essays to appeal to specific scholarships when required.

Once award recipients manually accept their scholarship offer on Scholarship Connect, the award will be distributed to their accounts within 10 business days. The award money will be split evenly among three academic quarters.

Scholarship result times vary, but results typically become available to students within 8-10 weeks after the scholarship application deadline. Applicants may log in to Scholarship Connect to view the status of their applications, which will show whether their application has been selected to receive an award, or reviewed but not selected.

Almost all COE scholarship awards dispersed during the 2021-22 academic year will apply to this same academic year, with the award money split evenly over three academic quarters. The one exception is the Elsie Luhan Award, to which students apply during the current academic year, with award money contributing to the following academic year.

If you are awarded a scholarship, you will be notified via Scholarship Connect. Your Scholarship Connect profile will display the scholarship award offer, and you will be able to select "Accept."

Endowed scholarship receipients are invited to offer written words of thanks to their scholarship donors and are also invited to attend a scholarship luncheon during the spring quarter.  You may share your written words of thanks through the Scholarship Connect site.
