Education &
Counseling Center

The Education and Counseling Center (ECC) offers training and supervision to DePaul students, alum, and counseling professionals by offering educational and counseling services for community members. The ECC's services include literacy assessment and remediation, general academic tutoring, professional counseling services, and professional development and supervision of counselors.

Training Programs

The College of Education supports families through a variety of programing which share a common set of core values centered on enriching DePaul students through clinical experiences. All training services occur on a quarterly basis and vary depending on course offerings.

Academic Tutoring & Homework Help

Tutoring and homework help is available in subject specific areas, such as math, reading and writing, and science. Tutoring across curriculum may also focus on study skills, organization and time management, and strategies for academic success.

Literacy Assessment & Remediation

Literacy assessment and remediation services are provided through the Literacy and Specialized Instruction program. DePaul graduate students, obtaining an endorsement as Reading Specialists, meet with children and teens with identified reading difficulties. Curriculum-based measures are used to monitor student's progress on a weekly basis. At the end of the session, a written report detailing the instructional interventions used and student's progress is provided.

Counseling Services

Counseling provides an opportunity for children and adults to talk with  supportive professionals regarding difficulties they may be having. In our counseling program, clients have an opportunity to talk about their strengths, learn new ways to cope with problems and practice new tools or coping more successfully.

Professional Development Events

The ECC provides professional development opportunities for professional counselors and allied health professionals. CEU/CPDU credit  is offered for professional counselors and social workers as well as educators. Content topics vary throughout the year and are offered at an affordable cost. In addition to workshops, consultation and supervision groups for counseling professionals are offered on a regular basis.

Cost

All costs associated with services the Education and Counseling Center are based on a low-cost sliding fee scale dependent upon client income and resources. No one is excluded due to inability to pay.
