Mental health counseling can make a significant difference in an individual’s ability to handle challenges that life presents. Having personal support in navigating everyday issues can improve mood, functioning, and relationships. ECC counselors-in-training can offer support to DePaul COE students dealing with topics such as:

Anger
Depression
ADHD
Self-esteem
Social skills
Wellness
Sadness
Stress
Identity formulation and discrimination
Time management
Relationship difficulties
Academic challenges
Grief & loss
Life changes
Anxiety
Positive thinking

Located within the College of Education on DePaul's Lincoln Park campus, the Education and Counseling Center (ECC) provides free counseling services to members of the DePaul community. The ECC's services include individual counseling, group counseling, and mental health workshops. The ECC is overseen by designated full-time faculty in the College of Education's Counseling program.

What to Expect

  • All prospective clients are asked to complete a brief mental health screening prior to being assigned a counselor. Screenings ensure that clients are matched with the appropriate level of care.
    • The ECC does not accept walk-ins.
  • Clients are paired with full-time counselors-in-training (CIT), including master's-level counseling students who are completing their practicum or internship experience. CITs complete a minimum of two years of coursework prior to being eligible to work with clients in the ECC.
  • CITs are bound by the ACA code of ethics and are closely supervised by DePaul faculty who maintain client confidentiality and work to support the clients' best interests.
  • All information shared in session is confidential unless there is indication of a possibility of harm to a client or another person.
  • Counseling sessions are scheduled on a weekly basis for 50 minutes and can be held either in person or virtually. Once paired with a counselor, client-counselor dyads will schedule ongoing sessions that accommodate their schedules.
