Graduate Assistantships
The Graduate Assistant is an important and integral part of the fabric of life in DePaul University's School of Education. Graduate Assistantships in the School of Education are opportunities for student educators to work closely with faculty members to support on-going research efforts and engage in on-going conversations regarding educational issues and research with faculty and other student colleagues. Because GAs generally work with and for several faculty members at once, they can expect broad-based exposure to the day-to-day workings of the School of Education within the context of university life. Please review details on Appointments, Application, Remuneration, and Responsibilities..

Appointments
Graduate Assistants are appointed by each of the departments and programs in the School of Education:
  • Department of Teacher Education
  • Department of Educational Research and Policy Studies
  • Department of Leadership in Education, Language, and Human Services
  • School of Education Academic Support Center
  • Doctoral Program
The number of appointments available for any given school year varies and is contingent upon the number of returning GAs from the previous year.

Application
Before applying, interested students should first familiarize themselves with the role(s) of Graduate Assistants in the School of Education as articulated on-line at Adacemic Departments and Programs and/or the School of Education Academic Support Center.

The School of Education is not accepting applications at this time.

Applications will be accepted beginning FEBRUARY 1 of each year. Assistantships begin the following fall quarter. Application deadline is APRIL 15. Applicants must be current School of Education students or currently in the process of admittance for fall quarter. Your SOE enrollment/application status should be noted in your application.

Remuneration
Graduate Assistants receive tuition remission for 2 (4 credit-hour) courses per quarter for three quarters: Fall, Winter, and Spring. Tuition remission must be used in the quarter in which it is awarded, and cannot be rolled over into future quarters or used during the summer.

In addition to tuition remission, Graduate Assistants receive a stipend. They work no more than 20 hours per week for each of the 10 weeks during the quarter.

Responsibilites
Departmental supervisors distribute work assignments, which may include the following: conducting literature reviews; collecting and analyzing data; copy editing or updating content of faculty papers; carrying out initial journal searches; and providing assistance in writing grants and preparing articles. Graduate Assistants may also be asked to perform copying and or filing duties related to ongoing research activities, though this will not make up the majority of their workload.
