The Reading and Learning Lab

The Reading and Learning Lab at DePaul University offers diagnostic testing of reading skills and performance, and academic tutoring for primary and secondary students' experiencing reading and/or learning difficulties. Graduate students from DePaul University's Reading Specialist Master's Program test and tutor clients from the Chicago land area under the supervision of DePaul Faculty from the Graduate Program for Language, Literacy, and Specialized Instruction.
The Lab is dedicated to helping everyone reach their learning potential through guided and supported instruction based upon diagnostic testing which identifies learning strengths and weaknesses. A parent conference and a written report of the diagnostic findings and suggestions for instructional strategies and/or interventions are given to the parents/guardians at the conclusion of the sessions. The report can be released to the client's school or agency with parental/guardian permission.
Academic tutoring with instructional support and intervention is also provided in the Lab. A personalized plan is developed based upon the client's diagnostic evaluation. Specialized instruction is designed to enable each client to "close the gap" between his/her current achievement level and potential performance.
Both diagnostic and academic tutoring services are offered at reasonable rates in an effort to make this help available to all who may need it. A sliding scale fee is available for those who qualify. The charge for eight weeks of individual sessions of diagnostic testing or academic tutoring with instructional support and intervention is $385. Students meet with their clinician on a one-one basis for 90 minutes of individualized services each week for eight weeks.
If you have, or are aware of an elementary, junior high or high school student who is experiencing difficulty in reading and/or learning, please consider the DePaul Reading and Learning Lab as a place where qualified, professional help is available. Spanish-speaking staff can assist and answer questions for those who need interpretation. The Lab is here to serve the community using the high standards of quality and commitment for which the mission of DePaul University is known.
