Instructor Guidelines

Field experiences are an integral part of our teacher preparation curriculum. Instructors are responsible for the quality of field experiences that are attached to each course. The Guide to Field Experiences provides essential information about planning field experiences for your course.

Letter to Cooperating Teacher

Instructors are not expected to place students in schools; however, they should carfully manage the field experiences in their courses. Instructors can facilitate field experiences by providing candidates with a copy of a letter to the cooperating teacher. Customize the letter by explaining your field experience requirements.

Field Experience Evaluations

Performance evaluation is also an integral part of our teacher preparation programs. Read more about evaluating field experiences in the Faculty Guide above. Forms are provided below.

CPS FIELD EXPERIENCE PROCESS

In order to complete field experience within the CPS, you must complete a two-step process. Field Experience includes any students completing observations, pre-clinical hours, practicum experiences and any PRE-student teaching experiences in CPS schools. Field experience is NOT the same as student teaching clearance.

1. Complete On-line Field Experience Registration Form ----- https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dDJneWZ2bkh2Z3czamlPQ01neGxic2c6MQ

2. Submit criminal background check to CPS through Accurate Biometrics.

Attached you will find the necessary fingerprint forms. Please read the directions carefully. We ask that you complete fingerprinting between November 2, 2011 and December 9, 2011. This is to ensure that ample time is provided for CPS to process, especially in the instances where an ERROR or HIT may occur on a background report. In addition, we need all students to complete this process before winter break.

For more information, please feel free to email fieldexperience@cps.k12.il.us with any questions or concerns.
