Centers and Initiatives

School of Education centers and initiatives embody the purposes and goals of the School of Education Mission Statement:   

  • To prepare professionals to work in schools and in settings which support the work of schools.
  • To provide practicing educators with opportunities to develop advanced skills.
  • To provide the University community, profssionals, and the public-at-large with opportunities to examine educational issues in a larger social and cultural context.
  • To promote scholarly activity that may lead to the improvement of educational practices.
  • To sponsor programs of service to children and youth, as well as their families and communities.

    Educational Technology Center for Excellence in e-Learning, Teaching and Research

    The Center promotes initiatives that enhance student access to and engagement with technology and faculty excellence in the integration of educational technology into their teaching contexts.

    Initiatives

    America Reads - DePaul University students provide literacy tutoring to students in 29 Chicago schools.

    AP•MSEC - The Asia-Pacific Mathematics and Science Education Collaborative (AP•MSEC) at DePaul University exists to catalyze systemic improvement in mathematics and science education through research dissemination, curriculum and program design, and professional education in collaboration with colleagues and allied organizations of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member economies.

    Family Lab - The on-campus Family Lab offers diagnostic and remedial tutoring in literacy to children and youth in the Chicago area.

    GEARUP - The Chicago Education Alliance, including DePaul University, serves middle schools in this federally funded program designed to improve academic potential.

    Math and Science Initiative - The Math and Science Initiative aims to improve instructional methods and to stimulate students’ interest and learning of math and science. 

    PDS - The DePaul University Professional Development Schools Network seeks to develop a sustainable network of like minded professionals with wide ranging skills who will support and enrich not only each other and the communities they serve, but also will serve as knowledgeable voices in preparing future generations of teachers equipped to meet the needs of diverse students in today's classroom.

    The Stockyards Institute  - The Stockyards Institute is an artist project that explores Chicago communities as underground, viable, activated spaces to engage youth, community residents, and artists thorough a small, open interchange of projects and programs in electronic and visual arts, social activism, and experimental pedagogy.
