Centers and Initiatives

In the College of Education, centers and initiatives help prepare our students to work in schools and in settings which support the work of schools. These “extra-curricular” organizations and activities are especially important for engaging our students with the larger community and vice versa.

Center For Educational Technology - The center promotes initiatives that enhance student access to and engagement with technology and that help faculty integrate technology into their teaching contexts.

Initiatives

Family Lab-For 44 years, the Family Lab has offered diagnostic and remedial tutoring in literacy to children and youth in the Chicago area for a moderate or sliding scale cost.

Professional Development Schools Network - The DePaul University Professional Development Schools Network (PDSN) seeks to develop a sustainable network of like-minded professionals with wide ranging skills who support and enrich each other and the communities they serve, as well as helping to prepare future generations of teachers to meet the needs of diverse students in today's classroom.

Stockyard Institute - The Stockyard Institute is a project that explores Chicago communities as places to engage youth, community residents, and artists thorough a small, open interchange of projects and programs in electronic and visual arts, social activism, and experimental pedagogy.

SITE is a community-based curriculum platform and online center that focuses on improving the ways in which we think about teaching and learning. SITE envisions its users openly and collaboratively engaging ideas around education.

DPU Teaching with Primary Sources Program and Library of Congress

PS and the Library of Congress are offering FREE Professional Development sessions. There are millions of digitized primary sources available at the Library of Congress, with items available to help every educator. A Level I program is starting soon at DePaul's Naperville Campus. CPDUs are provided for each hour of attendance.


Catholic School Council-emerged in the Fall of 2009 from discussions with the principals and presidents of the four Catholic High Schools in which the College of Education has a formal partnership. The goal is to find mechanisms and processes to best utilize the partnership,and to collaborate more effectively with other units within the university.

The School of Education's Professional Development Schools Network is a novel concept designed to enhance prekindergarten-12th grade education while providing a creative environment for teacher preparation and professional development.
